For sale is my 1979 BMW R65 motorcycle. I have owned it for four years and it is time for it to go. It was first registered in the UK on August 20th, 1979, and is now registered with the DVLA as MOT and road tax-free. The bike is in good used condition considering its age, it’s not concourse but it’s mechanically sound, and everything works as it should. I have done less than 450 miles on it each year since I’ve owned it.

It starts reliably on the button, initially on one cylinder, then after 5 seconds, the other cylinder kicks in. The fuel is around a year old and may need to be replaced. I use E5 fuel and get around 52 to 55mpg. The tyres are Bridgestone Battlax with 3.5mm left on the front and 4.5mm left on the rear.

There are no known significant faults with it, other than a repair to the instrument surround and a very slight oil leak, which does not leave stains on the garage floor. The tank has a ding and a few paint chips, which are visible in the pictures.

The bike has been well-maintained by the previous owner who spent over £3,200 on parts and upgrades, with receipts totalling around £2,500. Work includes an unleaded cylinder head conversion, new piston rings, progressive fork springs, a master cylinder, a coil, and stainless silencers, balance pipe and downpipes. There are four old MOTs in the file, and the current mileage is 64,628.

The bike comes with a BMW OE correct-to-period R-series screen, a BMW OE correct-to-period R-series tank bag, kick-start gearbox option, Surefoot side stand, twin-disc front brake conversion with s/s braided hoses, BMW panniers, tank panniers, a spare tank, a spare matching seat, a set of two matching side panels, a matching front mudguard, a pair of wheels with tyres, a pair of discs, a spare clutch cable and pair of spare (new) throttle cables, filters, plugs, relays, and a BMW exhaust flange spanner. Two compatible ‘made-up’ tool kits in leather tool rolls, one with a full set of DIN spanners, are included, but the under-seat tool tray is missing.
